"Hello There Friend" Work selected and displayed by Harrell Fletcher Sometimes the best thing to do as an artist is to show someone else's art. Harrell Fletcher has made a career of showing other people's art, whether they consider it art or not. Fletcher's activities reside somewhere between and off to the side of a normal curator, artist, collector, or teacher. Often the work that he promotes and displays would never have been made if it wasn't for his encouragement and interest, other times he locates work that is produced in obscurity and would remain that way without his attention. Fletcher has employed his idiosyncratic collaborative approach to create displays in both ad hock public exhibition spaces as well as museums and galleries all over the country. For the exhibition Hello There Friend Fletcher has collected a set of mysteriously humorous drawings and writings by his long time friend Jess Hilliard. Hilliard currently lives in rural Ohio and works in a diaper factory, but in the past has appeared on David Letterman lighting his hand on fire, played bass in a band that toured with Green Day, and written stories for a variety of underground publications including Dishwasher and Comet Bus.
